More Rattlesnakes in Marlborough
More Rattlesnakes on West Road, Marlborough.
Freshly killed Rattlesnake (death by car) just opposite Blish Road.
About 4 feet long and about 4 inches thick. 6 rattles on it’s tail. It looked healthy, except for the fact it was flat in one section.
What stuck me is how difficult it would be to see that dark brown with diamond pattern in the leaves. Remind me to stay on the path.
As I drove by, an old guy on a motor scooter was beating the dead rattler with a stick, “Lived in Marlborough all my life, first time I’ve seen the snake”. Got to love local color.

We talked to the gentleman you encountered. He mentioned that the injured snake was very much alive when he came upon it and it was suffering tremendously. He was concerned that some kids may go up to it and get bitten. So he took matters into his own hands and decided to compassionately put the snake out of its misery. Guess that’s a task easier said than done. Confirmed by others listening that its very difficult to kill a snake (even for humane purposes). Guess that’s why they’ve been around since the beginning of time …
Thanks for the post. I am surrounded by rattlesnakes. Who would have believed it.
The snake was still moving, no doubt. After 16 years of living in Marlborough I’ve never seen a rattlesnake.
My father-in-law was a supervisor with the CT DOT during the construction of Rt 2, he tells stories of the bulldozer operators having to clear the rattlesnakes off the bulldozers in the morning.
Ever wonder what that metal plate in the cliff on Rt 2 near the hunting club is for? It was a rattlesnake den.
I will be much more alert clearing out brush on my property.
