Griebel Calls For Biennial Legislature

Someone asked me who is running for Governor? I replied, “a couple of rich guys from Greenwich and Oz”.

Oz is refreshing.  Something attractive about having a governor named, “Oz”.  Here is the link to his site.

I met Oz and the son of Oz and found them both highly likable.  They pass the “would sit down and have a beer with” test.

The biennial legislature would not be a bad idea, but how about a “no working for an entity that gets its funds from the government rule”?

Many who are Senators and Representatives work full time in non-profits or other organizations that feed at the public trough.  Calling in to doubt their ability to be less than fully engaged in keeping expenses down.

If you run a non-profit can you think of a greater joy then embedding one of your own into the treasury?

The lack of legislative urgency, especially regarding the state budget, got Republican gubernatorial candidate R. Nelson “Oz” Griebel thinking that having a biennial legislature might not be such a bad idea.

A biennial legislature would only meet in the odd numbered years to work on the two-year budget. In the even numbered years it could call itself into special session if there was something it needed to address, Griebel explained.

“We’ve been doing things the same way for thirty years and new ideas need to seriously be pursued,” Griebel said Monday.

He reasoned that with a biennium budget there’s no need to come back and adjust it in the even numbered years. He said this would also force the legislature to set deadlines, abide by them, and remain a part-time legislature.
