2nd District Candidate Dubitsky Responds To Charges
Press Release from the Dubitsky2010 Campaign:
Chaplin, CT- Doug Dubitsky, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd
district, responds to false allegations that he is a “liberal tree-hugger.”
The Dubitsky campaign has learned that a small but vocal group supporting one of Mr.
Dubitsky’s opponents is about to launch a media attack on Mr. Dubitsky’s Republican
credentials by alleging he is anti-development and anti-business because he supports
efforts to preserve our dwindling Connecticut farmland. Such accusations are wrong and
misguided.
“There is no conflict between conservatism and conservation,” Dubitsky explained. “I am
proud to support voluntary farmland preservation efforts being promoted by concerned
groups and individuals across the state. I have also, and will continue to, strongly
advocate for the personal property rights of farmers and landowners to use their land
as they and their families see fit,” he said. “As a farmer myself, I know how inflexible
land-use regulations and overzealous enforcement efforts impose unfair burdens on
landowners and stifle the growth and viability of businesses. Much of my legal career has
been devoted to advocating for the rights of farmers, landowners and small businesses to
develop their land.
To claim that I am somehow ‘anti-development’ is simply absurd.”
Connecticut farms are under intense pressure of residential development. Without the
efforts of concerned groups and individuals, the rural character of our state could be
lost forever. Doug Dubitsky proudly supports preserving what agriculture is left in
Connecticut from expanding sprawl. But such farmland preservation efforts should be
voluntary by those who own and work the land, not governmentally imposed through
regulation or condemnation. Doug’s position is neither liberal nor anti-business, but
is based on the common sense, conservative principles that Doug Dubitsky is proud to
advocate.
