The GOP Candidates
In a stunning victory the Marlborough Republicans celebrated at the Marlborough Traven a complete sweep of all races.
Voter turn out was high at 1157 votes cast. Compared with the town meeting votes this past summer on the budget of around 600 voters.
In the highly contested election for Board of Finance, Cliff Denniss (R): 768, Richard Shea (R): 766 to Lauren Cragg (D): 450. Cragg’s bid for a Full Seat on the BOF has failed and she will remain an alternate. The Board of Finance will remain a 3/3 split between Democrats and Republicans.
Board of Finance Alternates: Pasquale Amodeo (R): 697, Susan Leser (R): 763 to Russ West (D): 498.
Board of Education: Carole Shea (R): 709, Karen McKinney (R): 797 to Mimi Lapoint (D): 510 and Shannon Bielaczyc (D): 572 (All candidates for the BOE will be seated).
Assess Appeals: Ken Hjulstrom (R): 773, David Morganson (R): 820 to (no Democrat candidate).
Planning: Jim Fox(R): 800, Wendy Nichols (R): 815 to Denis Soucy III (D): 701.
Zoning: Sue McFarland (R): 657, Scott Miller (R): 680, Jeff Tracey (R): 585 to Frederic Klein (D): 362, Lisa Shawes (D): 373, Ned Hickey (D): 448.
Zoning Alternate: David Fisher (R): 795 to (no Democrat candidate).
ZBA: Al Donze (R): 626, Dick Proch (R): 639 to John Grasso (D): 571, Nicholas Higgins (D): 399, Alan Miller (D): 489
ZBA Alternate: John Valentine (R): 802, to (no Democrat candidate).
RHAM BOE: Sandy Sudduth (R): 785 to Jim Cherry (D): 662
One Republican phone bank caller remarked she has never seen people so angry. Indeed in light of the Republicans gains on the State level one has to wonder what the mid-term elections will be like given the mid-terms are rarely favorable to the party in power.

On behalf of the Marlborough Republicans I want to thank all the candidates who worked so hard to get their message out. I also want to thank the voters who came out to the polls in support of our Republican candidates. I am confident that they will prove themselves worthy of your trust and support.

If they put as much effort into their new jobs as they did w/the election, then I’m sure they will do great.
As an independant I have the luxury of waiting and watching both sides before I cast my vote.
When the Republicans put up the yellow signs it demonstrated strong will. determination, creativity and spunk. Marlborough certainly needs all of the above.Of course, this is only my humble opinion.

Thank you “momoffive”. I know they will work hard and they are going into this with the knowledge that they have a lot of work ahead of them. The next budget season may well be more difficult than the last.

I would have hoped that once the elections were over that the new Board of Finance members would be able to move forward with the taxpayers’ business without the intrusion of politics, but that is not the case. If you look in the November 13th issue of the Rivereast (page 7) you will find a Letter to the Editor by Beth Petroni. She even signs it as a member of the Board of Finance. In this letter Beth says that “NO member/alternate should make statements when representing the board (Board of Finance), without prior approval by the board.”
Am I missing something? Isn’t Beth’s letter doing just that? This is a matter for discussion at a Board of Finance meeting. What is the purpose of airing her thoughts in public other than to try to influence the Board’s operation? Isn’t this how we got to where we were last budget season, when certain BOF members tried to stir up the taxpayers with scare tactics and misleading information?
I guess some people have not learned anything. That is a shame. But I hope that the public sees through this and contnues to support those on the BOF who are working in the best interests of the taxpayers.
